Let’s becoming familiar with the spring water in Yatsugatake

Yatsugatake South spring waters scattered in Hokuto city. The water from the Gongendake water source forest in the south of Yatsugatake and the rainwater that pours into the eastern foot of Yatsugatake infiltrate the volcanic rocks as groundwater.

Spot ① 100 selections of Japanese famous water

Point of interest. The name of “Sanbuichiyuusui” came from, collected in one place, and then diverted from there to the foothill areas. The state of the dividing pond, which divides into three directions is very beautiful, and the triangular pillar stone called the water stone placed in the center of the pond will impress the visiting people as the wisdom of the ancestors. As one of the Yatsugatake South spring water group, it has been selected as one of the 100 best water in Japan.

Spot ② “Water” theme museum “SSanbuichiyuusuiMuseum”

Point of interest. The Yusuikan, located adjacent to the “Sanbuichiyuusui” spring water, is a facility that introduces the mechanism and water quality of the southern foot of Yatsugatake, folk tales and history, and the water itself. The museum exhibits the history, exhibits, and dioramas that allows you to experience the mechanism of springs. There is also an observation hall on the 3rd floor of the museum where you can see the nature around Yatsugatake. There is also an agricultural direct sales place that sells fresh vegetables harvested locally.

Spot ③ Plateau Museum “Ikuo Hirayama Silk Road Museum”

Point of interest. Opened in July 2004 at an art museum located on a leafy plateau with an altitude of 1000m overlooking Yatsugatake and Mt. Fuji. A series of paintings by Japanese painter Ikuo Hirayama and about 9,000 Silk Road artworks collected by Hirayama and his wife over nearly 40 years are on display. Facilities such as wooden decks, restaurants and shops are also available.

Soba restaurant Sanbunno Ichi

A soba restaurant that is located next to the “Sanbuichiyuusui Museuem”. This is a soba noodle that is carefully made from Yatsugatake Nanban Gensoba (buckwheat) with a stone mill and using plenty of Yatsugatake Nanban spring water. It is strong and has an exquisite balance with soba soup, and the aroma and sweetness of the soba spreads in your mouth. Late October and early November are recommended for enjoying new soba noodles.
